Updated + Elevated: Picture frame walls in entryway of our split level home

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

The entryway in our split level home need a serious overhaul. Not only was it really lacking function, there is a small landing area as it is a split level home. I found some inspiration of an entryway that is very very close to our layout and was so inspired to do something very similar in our space. The before photos tell the story better than I can in words. As you can see... it was dark, dated and drab. There was super dark railings, slate floors with mixed colors, faux stone walls that were panels and no storage at all. I jumped in and decided to add picture frame walls in the entryway of split level home.

THE

Before

This project tested me. It was over a hundred cuts! I have a deep appreciation for finishing carpenters as I really got a dose of a serious workload with this one. If I could do it again, one of the lessons learned on this project is that I likely would have gone with a smaller moulding to allow for a hand cutter to do most of the work.

THE

After

Picture frame walls in entryway of split level home actually elevate the small entry way space so much.

The flooring was also a mutli-day undertaking as I chose to do a lime wash technique on the slate floors. It's actually been holding up so well and is wearing just right, in my opinion. It was so fun to go back through all the photos of this project to really remember where we started and where we are today.
